My Long-Awaited Beach Day

On the second to last Sunday of my summer holidays, I was finally able to cross off the number 1 thing on my Summer 2014 Bucket List: go to the beach.

This year the weather where I spend my summers was the worst it has been for years, meaning no beach trips were made. But just when I thought I'd never achieve my number 1 goal for the summer, the sun decided to make an appearance and I got my beach day (or beach early-afternoon, I guess!)!

It wasn't roasting hot, only 17-18°C, but the sun was out and that was all I cared about. I dragged my family out of the house to the closest beach, which happens to have some of the highest sand dunes in Europe. I had great fun going up the sand dunes and had amazing views from the top. The best bit, however, was running/sliding down them afterwards!

These were some of the pictures I took. I hope you enjoy the pretty scenery as much as I did!

Top 5 Tunesday #2

1. Year 3000 - Busted

This is one of my all-time favourite songs which I had rather regretfully abandoned for a long time. After putting my iPod on shuffle and it coming on, my love for it was rekindled. I love the catchy tune and the quirky storyline of the song.

(Sorry I couldn't use the official music video - I couldn't find one that was good enough quality to use)

2. Shake It Off - Taylor Swift

I have one thing to say to Taylor Swift: you go, girl! This song is so motivational to anyone who is having to deal with haters, as they can just follow Taylor's advice and "shake, shake, shake, shake, shake" it off.
I know some people don't like the music video, but I do because it has so much relevance to the song; it shows Taylor in different groups in society and we can see she doesn't fit in. She's saying that you don't have to fall into those particular groups and it's okay to be different.

3. Rude - MAGIC!

I love the mellow beat of this song and love how it matches the storyline of the song perfectly. It's
a chilled out beat because even though the guy asks for his girlfriend's father's blessing, he's chilled out and doesn't care because he'll "marry her anyway."
I love the catchy chorus of the song and the originality of the lyrics.

4. High Hopes - The Vamps

I am loving this song from The Vamps' new album! It's a sweet, uplifting love song written by The Vamps themselves along with Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones and Dougie Poynter from McFly. I love the guitar part to the song and the sweet lyrics. (My favourite lines are "I could move in with you, / We could get married too, / Go on our honeymoon, / But maybe we should finish this coffee first" :) )

5. Any Dream Will Do from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Last week, I had the opportunity to go and see this amazing musical on stage. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is probably my third favourite musical (after Wicked and the Sound of Music) and I have now seen it live three times. I love all of the fun, upbeat songs but I think this one has to be my favourite!

Top 5 Tunesday #1

I am a huge fan of music - any music at all. I have favourite songs and pieces in nearly all genres of music. Whilst I love listening to my classic favourites, I, like most other people, love discovering new songs and artists. This is why every Tuesday from now on I'm going to tell you my five most listened-to songs of the week. Some of them may be pop songs, rock songs, country songs or even classical pieces - just whatever has been getting me through the week. I hope you guys like this and maybe even discover new favourite artists or songs :)

♡

1. Somebody to You - The Vamps featuring Demi Lovato

This song is so upbeat and catchy and I find it's one of those songs you can listen to over and over again without getting sick of it. The lyrics to the song are so sweet and I think everyone has felt like this about someone at one time or another (well, it's how I feel about those Vamps boys anyway haha :D )

2. Sing - Ed Sheeran

I could probably write a really long post just about Ed Sheeran - I just think he's THE ultimate singer-songwriter. After '+' came out I didn't think he could write another album as good, but all you have to do is listen to this song to realise that he has. I love the catchy chorus of this song and the quirky music video that goes along with it.

3. That Girl - McFly

This song is nearly 10 years old but I only heard it for the first time 2 weeks ago when I discovered The Vamps' version of it. I instantly loved the song and have had it stuck in my head ever since!

4. Love Runs Out - OneRepublic

I love this song because, to me, it sounds like a few different genres of music rolled into the one song and I feel it kind of has something for everyone within it. The lyrics to the song are great and the vocals are so powerful.

5. Defying Gravity - Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth

This is my favourite song to listen to when I'm feeling a bit down and unmotivated. It's just one of those songs that can always lift my mood and instantly make me feel better. Not to mention Wicked is my all-time favourite musical and I think Idina Menzel has the most amazing voice. It's a great song for belting out at the top of your voice when you're home alone haha :D

The Crazy World of Loom

If you have never heard the word "loom" before, where have you been the past few months?!

Loom bands

Loom bands are small rubber bands of different colours, which people use to make things. It started off being bracelets, necklaces and other little bits of jewellery, but now it's gotten to the stage where a girl is even selling a Loom dress on eBay!

I heard about Loom from my younger brother (11) and sister (9) who were with the craze right from the start. They started with bracelets and rings, but now my brother has even made Merida from the Disney movie Brave out of Loom bands!

Unfortunately when Loom bands first became popular I was in the middle of studying for my GCSEs, so I didn't have time to learn how to make bracelets or anything. Two weeks ago, I finally got round to buying some Loom bands of my own and my sister has taught me how to make a fishtail bracelet and an inverted fishtail bracelet.

So I've now joined the crazy world of loom, and so I'll be well on my way to being able to sell my own Loom dress! (Haha :) )
